Cobra Cup Alumni Reunion & Kart Race Sunday PLUS: Fill a Race Car Food Drive
Grand Bend Speedway celebrates its 30th season of competition with its first-ever alumni day this Sunday as part of the Cobra Tire Cup. Racing starts at 1:00 pm with FREE spectator admission being offered to past drivers and crew who show a photo of their race car and bring a canned food donation for the “Fill a Race Car Food Drive” in support of Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre. Spectators who bring a food donation receive $5-off their spectator admission. The program features NASCAR Advance Auto Parts series racing, local divisions, as well as a special Alumni Kart race.
The Alumni Kart Race is free to enter with pit admission purchase for past drivers at GBS. Drivers can contact the track office (Tabitha at 519-369-6969 or ontrackventures@gmail.com) ahead of time to sign up for the race. The track is aiming to fill slots from a variety of different years and divisions. Contact the track early for the best opportunity to be in the event.
Cobra Tire Cup competition resumes on Sunday for Huron Taxi Service Late Models, Doxtator Property Maintenance Bone Stocks, as well as the newly introduced programs for the Super Stock / Sportsman and Hot Rods. The track has been working hard behind the scenes to attract competitors to those two new divisions and has seen an upswing of interest in those classes.
Local racing will feature a trio of the classic GBS divisions that were running in 1996: the 9HP Sprints, Mini Trucks, and Junior Sprints.
Touring series action takes centre stage this Saturday at 6:30 PM at Grand Bend Speedway with the Great Lakes Legends series along with the highly anticipated debut of the Ontario Pro Sprints. The lineup also features racing from the Grand Bend Home Hardware 9HP Sprints, Doxtator Property Maintenance Bone Stocks, Pine Dale Inn Junior Sprints, and also the first competition of the season from the Pro Kart series. Spectator admission is $20, kids age 15 and under get in FREE for spectator admission.
The Ontario Pro Sprints are scaled winged sprint cars that trace their lineage back to the famous 440 sprints that used to run at GBS years ago. The return of this style of car adds even more variety to the racing lineup. The Ontario Pro Sprints compete as part of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series at the track.

The event is also the first of five Cobra Tire Cup events highlighting the Huron Transfer Service Late Models, Super Stock / Sportsman, Hot Rod, and Doxtator Property Maintenance Bone Stock Competition and also features competition from the Robson Scrap Metals Mini Trucks, 9HP Sprints, and Pine Dale Motor Inn Junior Sprints. Kids and youth age 15 and enter free of charge, adult spectators are $20, seniors and students enter for $15.
