Grand Bend Speedway celebrates its 30th season of competition with its first-ever alumni day this Sunday as part of the Cobra Tire Cup.  Racing starts at 1:00 pm with FREE spectator admission being offered to past drivers and crew who show a photo of their race car and bring a canned food donation for the “Fill a Race Car Food Drive” in support of Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre.  Spectators who bring a food donation receive $5-off their spectator admission.  The program features NASCAR Advance Auto Parts series racing, local divisions, as well as a special Alumni Kart race.

The Alumni Kart Race is free to enter with pit admission purchase for past drivers at GBS.  Drivers can contact the track office (Tabitha at 519-369-6969 or ontrackventures@gmail.com) ahead of time to sign up for the race.  The track is aiming to fill slots from a variety of different years and divisions.  Contact the track early for the best opportunity to be in the event.

Cobra Tire Cup competition resumes on Sunday for Huron Taxi Service Late Models, Doxtator Property Maintenance Bone Stocks, as well as the newly introduced programs for the Super Stock / Sportsman and Hot Rods.  The track has been working hard behind the scenes to attract competitors to those two new divisions and has seen an upswing of interest in those classes.

Local racing will feature a trio of the classic GBS divisions that were running in 1996: the 9HP Sprints, Mini Trucks, and Junior Sprints.

Touring series action takes centre stage this Saturday at 6:30 PM at Grand Bend Speedway with the Great Lakes Legends series along with the highly anticipated debut of the Ontario Pro Sprints. The lineup also features racing from the Grand Bend Home Hardware 9HP Sprints, Doxtator Property Maintenance Bone Stocks, Pine Dale Inn Junior Sprints, and also the first competition of the season from the Pro Kart series. Spectator admission is $20, kids age 15 and under get in FREE for spectator admission.

The race for the Great Lakes Legends is not just the first of the year for them at Grand Bend Speedway, it is also their season opener. Last year’s first race was won by Grand Bend alumni Austin Arnel (#29). The second event was won by Cole McFadden (#20). The Great Lakes Legends are a fast-growing touring series in Ontario that makes use of the popular Legends cars seen at many tracks in the USA. The cars themselves are 5/8-scale fiberglass full-fendered versions of the famed NASCAR modifieds from the 1930s and 1940s powered by 125 HP Yamaha engines weighing in at 1,250 lbs.

The Ontario Pro Sprints are scaled winged sprint cars that trace their lineage back to the famous 440 sprints that used to run at GBS years ago. The return of this style of car adds even more variety to the racing lineup. The Ontario Pro Sprints compete as part of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series at the track.

For the Pro Kart race, this is the chance for fans or interested drivers to get their feet wet with completion at Grand Bend Speedway. Season-long memberships remain available for the series, but there are still open slots. Drivers, crew, and even fans from the grandstand can register to enter the series for $30 per race (there are two feature races on the lineup at each event). A pit pass is required to enter the race. Registration is open day-of while spots are available, or by contacting the track.

General admission to the race includes access to the lawn chair area as well as the grandstand. Pits are open free of charge after the event to get an up close look at the racing vehicles. Fans also have access to the Outside Groove Diner and Food Court that has a great view of the pits and the race playing live on big screen TVs.
About the Track: Grand Bend Speedway is a 1/4 mile paved Tri-Oval race track. Originally built in 1996 for small-scale vehicles it was later expanded into the track of today which can accommodate both half-size development series as well as full-size race cars. The track is located just outside the town of Grand Bend beside the Grand Bend Motorplex facility.

Grand Bend Speedway will celebrate its 30th season opener this Sunday when NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series racing gets underway at 1:00 pm. The event is also the first of five Cobra Tire Cup events highlighting the Huron Transfer Service Late Models, Super Stock / Sportsman, Hot Rod, and Doxtator Property Maintenance Bone Stock Competition and also features competition from the Robson Scrap Metals Mini Trucks, 9HP Sprints, and Pine Dale Motor Inn Junior Sprints. Kids and youth age 15 and enter free of charge, adult spectators are $20, seniors and students enter for $15.

The Cobra Tire Cup Series is a five-event racing Series designed to showcase driving talent on two unique race tracks: four events are held on the traditional 1/4 mile tri-oval with the final race being held on the 1 mile hybrid oval track on the motorplex property at the end of the season. Drivers who run all five events are also eligible for the Double Down Loyalty Bonus that sees their prizing money doubled for all the events that they ran. The series also marks the debut of the new Super Stock / Sportsman and Hot Rod divisions which will be running for NASCAR Championship Points.

Drivers in the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series complete for championships across North America, earning local championships using their home tracks point system, while earning National, Regional and State points utilizing the NASCAR points system. Each NASCAR division receives a year-end points payout as well as weekly prizing.

In another first, the event will see RaceMed join the program as the official safety and cleanup crew at the track. The professional crew at RaceMed will help support GBS staff in the goal of keeping the event moving by reducing the time it takes to clean up and restart from incidents, as well as the primary benefit of improving driver safety.

The newly upgraded Outside Groove Diner & Food Court will be open with many new food options including subs, pizza, and hard-serve ice cream. The diner also has a great view of the pits so fans can get a look behind the scenes as drivers work on their vehicles and the race plays live on the many big screens in the revamped space.

The event will be live streamed through the track’s Facebook page and YouTube channel to showcase Grand Bend Speedway’s racing program.

A variety of upgrades and facility improvements are ongoing throughout the facility. These improvements will continue to progress each week throughout the season.

Fans can make use of wooden grandstand seating for a great view of the track or bring their own lawn chairs and blankets to comfortably set up and view the races from anywhere along the spectator hill.

Grand Bend Speedway is laying out exciting new driver incentive programs in the Late Model, Hot Rod, Super Stock / Sportsman and Invitational Bone Stock divisions as part of the 2025 Cobra Tire Cup program. The program sees the introduction of a highly competitive weekly payout program, season-end points fund through NASCAR, and an exceptional “Double Down Loyalty Bonus” that sees driver’s weekly payouts doubled if they run all five events in the Cobra Tires Cup program.

All together the program, which is the largest incentive program in Grand Bend Speedway history, includes nearly $100,000 in new possible payouts and bonuses directly to drivers, not including additional NASCAR points funds.

The Double Down Loyalty Bonus is simply that: a doubling of the weekly payouts for drivers who run all five Cobra Tire Cup events with the bonuses paid out at the final event. For example, if a driver were to earn $1,500 in payouts in total at the five events on the Cobra Tires Cup schedule, they would then receive a doubling bonus of another $1,500 to bring their total event payouts to $3,000 once they run their fifth and final event.

In addition to weekly payouts, drivers also participate in the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series points championship which pays $3,500 USD (Est. $5,000 CAD) for the Late Model Champion, $1,000 (Est. $1,400 CAD) for the Hot Rod Champion, and $700 (Est. $1,000 CAD) for the Super Stock / Sportsman champion.

On a per-event basis, driver payouts are highly competitive with Late Models paying $800 to win with heats and one 35 lap feature race, Hot Rods and Super Stock / Sportsman paying $500 to win each split across two 25-lap feature races. Invitational Bone Stocks pay $225 to win with heats and a 25-lap feature race.

While the first four events of the Cobra Tire Cup take place on the traditional 1/4-mile track at Grand Bend Speedway, the season finale “Corn Cob Classic” will take place on a one-mile hybrid oval track that is being configured out of the paved course that sits behind Grand Bend Speedway as part of the larger Grand Bend Motorplex.

The incentive program announcements come on the heels of other Grand Bend Speedway news including the introduction of RaceMed Rescue to support driver safety and the smooth flow of events, as well news that kids and youth aged fifteen and under will enter free of charge to the general admission spectator area for all events in 2025.

The racing season for Grand Bend Speedway begins with the first Cobra Tire Cup event on Sunday, May 25.

Grand Bend Speedway’s weekly racing lineup is getting some added winged excitement with the addition of the NASCAR Ontario Pro Sprints to the summer lineup.  The class will run eight races at the track throughout the summer.

The Ontario Pro Sprints are half-scale winged sprint cars running a spec Polaris 550cc snowmobile engine.  The class was introduced just over eight years ago around southern Ontario.  Fans at GBS may recognize the vehicle: in the past, the division ran as the 440cc Sprint Cars division at the track.  The vehicles feature fully adjustable suspension like a full-size sprint car.

The division will compete for the NASCAR Division IV championship at the track.

The 2025 season opens on Sunday, May 25^th at 1:00 pm for the first event of the Cobra Tires Cup.  The first race for the Ontario Pro Sprints will take place the following week on Saturday, May 31 at 6:30 pm.  Season passes for the upcoming season are available at www.GrandBendSpeedway.ca.

Grand Bend Speedway will host an up-and-coming winged sprint car series, the Tri-State Sprints, in 2025.  The race for the visiting series will take place on Saturday, August 23 and is preceded by an exhibition practice visit earlier in the summer on July 5^th to give drivers a sense of the track and prepare for the main event in August.

Sprint cars are open wheel light-weight vehicles with high horsepower, generating close to 900 horsepower in a 1600 pound car.  The vehicles are easily recognizable with their signature top-mounted wing that generates additional downforce for incredible cornering.  Combine that high-horsepower and light weight and that makes sprint cars a thrill to watch wherever the race.

The Tri-State sprints are heading into their second season of competition.  Based mainly in Michigan, the name is in reference to the three states most of the drivers are from (Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio) and is also a call back to the Tri-Sac series of old, essentially a “run what you brung” series of sprint cars and super modifieds.  The Tri-State series aims to reignite that style of competition allowing both sprint cars and super modifieds under a fairly open rulebook, provided the vehicle is running a cost-saving 10” tire that helps equalize competition by reducing the advantage of big horsepower.

By reducing that horsepower advantage, and the costs associated with maintaining a competitive high-powered engine, series founder and Michigan Motorsports Hall of Famer John Hotchkiss hopes to draw otherwise parked vehicles out of the barn and back on to the race track for fun, exciting events on a variety of racing venues.
