2024 Champions Celebrated

Grand Bend Speedway celebrated its division champions on Sunday afternoon at the track.

Consistent performance throughout the season saw Rylan Facchinato (#89) of Seaforth take home the track title in the Huron Taxi Service NASCAR Late Model division and the $3,500 USD (approximately $4,700 CAD) prize that comes along with it as part of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series. Johnathan Schwemler of Listowel won the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series Provincial Championship with a solid seven feature race wins.  He receives a special championship fire suit and commemorative trophy.

Caleb Goertz (#19) of Ilderton took home the NASCAR Mini Truck Championship, Carter Nicol (#52) of Ailsa Craig claimed the Doxtator Property Maintenance Bone Stocks title, Mike Beneteau (#33) of Grand Bend received championship honours in the NASCAR 9HP Sprints, while Edwin Hyde (#18H) of Petrolia found himself atop the Junior Sprint points standings.

Following the awards ceremony, the champions from each division competed in a “Race of Champions” using the track’s Pro Karts which was won by Mike Beneteau. The Pro Karts will be a regular staple of Saturday competition next season offering an entry-level opportunity to try out racing at Grand Bend Speedway.

Pro Kart Racing League Coming in 2025

A new way to try out racing at Grand Bend Speedway is coming next summer when the track begins running a Pro Kart Racing League as part of its weekly racing program in 2025.  The league is open to adults ages 18 and over and is designed to offer an accessible introduction to motorsports before a driver invests in equipment and chooses a racing division of their own.  The Karts are set to run a 16-race season.  Driving duties are able to be split among more than one person making a registration a great fit for friends and family looking to hit the track next summer.

More information and registration details can be found here: https://www.grandbendspeedway.ca/pro-kart-racing-league/

Season Finale Saturday: Special Extended Races & 6 PM Start Time

The Grand Bend Speedway 2024 Season Finale has been rescheduled (due to weather forecast) for next Saturday, September 14 with a special 6:00 pm start time and race format.  Competition features the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series classes as well as development competition from the Junior Sprints.  The NASCAR divisions will be running time trials and extended features.  The Junior Sprints will be finishing off their feature race from last week and finishing their season with a 30-Lap Special.

Race lengths for the divisions are:

NASCAR Huron Taxi Service Late Models: 50 Laps
NASCAR 9HP Sprints: 40 Laps
NASCAR Mini Trucks: 40 Laps
NASCAR Doxtator Property Maintenance Bone Stocks: 40 Laps

Full event itinerary available here.

For most classes, the event is largely a championship coronation for the points leaders: drivers will be putting their efforts towards trying to claim one more checkered flag before the season concludes.  In the Junior Sprints, however, the championship comes down to a two-way battle between Colin Klumper (#11) and Edwin Hyde (#18H) who are separated by just two points.  Racing will stream live on the track’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Food concessions are open on the spectator hill, as well as The Outside Groove Diner which has a great view of the pits all night long.

General admission seating includes access to the lawn chair area as well as the grandstand. Pits are open free of charge after the event to get an up close look at the racing vehicles.

Tickets available at the door:

  • Adult (Age 18 – 59): $20
    Senior/Student (Age 13-17 / 60 +): $15
    Youth (Age 4-12): $5
Infant (Age 3 and under): FREE
