GBS Updates Schedule Heading into Summer
Following last week’s sudden event cancellation, Grand Bend Speedway is updating its 2023 racing schedule with the aim of enhancing competition at the track and ensuring the circumstances leading to the cancellation do not repeat. The new schedule ensures that there will be racing for drivers every week at the track with some races on Thursdays and others on Saturdays throughout the summer. Racing at the track resumes immediately with the next competition scheduled for this Saturday, June 10 at 7:00 pm for the Jared Doxtator Memorial.
The updated schedule can be viewed here.
“Last Saturday’s event cancellation is not going to happen again,” said promoter Gord Bennett. “Grand Bend Speedway isn’t going anywhere: we are here to stay. The new schedule is going to help put us in a position to grow our local racing classes more effectively with the support of strong traveling classes. I want to thank our drivers and amazingly supportive staff for working with us on the schedule.”
The updated Saturday schedule leverages existing dates booked with strong touring series like the Great Lakes Legends, Can-Am Midgets, and Southern Ontario Modified Series, and Outlaw Midgets to anchor events while the track works to attract new competitors to race in the local classes. This ensures that as the facility aims to become a destination for beachgoers that there is strong racing on the track at those highlighted events.
The Thursday night of racing allows drivers to compete throughout the summer, even on weeks when no Saturday event is scheduled. The Thursday program includes a cheaper pit admission option when compared to the Saturday events.
To help promote racing at the track, the Saturday racing program will also have five events live streamed to showcase the speedway to a wider audience. The track will also be working to connect prospective drivers with equipment and cars that are for sale and showcasing those vehicles to its audience on social media.
Track management will be continuing to work with drivers who are interested in participating with special programs that allow drivers to practice during the week and give the track a try. Interested drivers can contact the speedway office for more information.
The newly announced schedule updates come as the track is on the verge of opening the new Go Kart attraction that will open the track to the public in a new way. After driving the karts, special offers will be put in place to encourage participants to come and experience the evening racing programs at the track which will attract even more fans and potential future racers to the venue. The new Go Kart attraction is in addition to the existing Around the Bend Driving Experience that lets participants get behind the wheel or in the passenger seat of full-size race cars.
The next race event at Grand Bend Speedway is this Saturday, June 10: the Jared Doxtator Memorial Event. Racing starts at 7PM featuring racing from the Mini Trucks, 9hp Sprints, 4 Cylinders, V8 Late Models, and development competition from Jr Late Models and Jr Sprints. After the races the Creekie Beaver Boys band will take to the Landshark Stage for the licensed post-race party.
